Oeiras Cheesecake Tartlets History

The creation of Oeiras cheesecake tartlets (Queijada de Oeiras) is recent, the founder is not a baker, but a computer technician.  But success has been outstanding: Oeiras cheesecake tartlets won 1st prize at the very first contest that they participated in, in the Alto Alentejo, which is rich in traditions of the art of pastry baking. They are absolutely delicious.

At first glance they resemble the famous Sintra Cheesecake tartlets, although larger and with a much thinner dough. When tried the taste is different, we can even say that is different from all the others. Its creator, Carlos Fragoso Malato, who belongs to a large family, learned to cook at a very young age; in 2000 started to study cheesecake tartlets, researching its ingredients and experimenting until he found the ideal formula!

Municipal Merit Medal

In 2002 the cheesecake tartlets were presented at the 5th Alto Alentejo sweets contest, they sold out the six hundred cheesecake tartlets, intended for sale to the public and won the 1st prize! They are produced by hand and sometimes not enough for orders.

On 7th of June 2006 they opened their doors to the public at their current location and in 2007 awarded a Municipal Merit Medal, silver, conferring the status of "Oeiras Ambassador Product", now known beyond their borders.

Our mark in history is being built daily on stressing immaterial values, made of images, memories and timeless flavors, steeping in their value of tradition. Or is not the Tradition, more than a sign of the past but also how we want to be remembered in the future. These, also, are some of the reasons one would feel so comfortable in the Oeiras historic center, benefitting from the presence of history, scale, dimension and neighborhood values.
